Sandro Bocci films coral closer than we usually see it. Colossal shares his film Iteration for Julia Set Lab, with music by Maurizio Morganti. Colour transitions, repeating shapes and texture are worth lingering over.
For a motion designer, this is a useful exercise in looking. When does repetition stay interesting? How do a soft gradient and a sharp boundary coexist? When does a pattern stop reading as individual parts and start working as a whole? Those questions are easier to explore with something to examine, rather than an empty timeline.
The film has its own pace. For a few minutes, each image can be spared the demand to become immediately useful. The reference won’t swim away: the source below includes the video.
