Designboom shares Studio Loutsis’s wayfinding project for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Timber pylons, maps and signs extend the campus architecture; the studio credits Commercial Type for collaboration on a bespoke typeface.
The shift in scale is the appealing detail. A roadside sign needs to catch a distant eye. A trail marker needs to help someone already walking. One handsome plaque is unlikely to do both jobs. There’s a real reason to test hierarchy: does the useful information arrive before the visitor completes an unnecessary lap?
This is graphic design you can judge with your feet. Knowing where to go is already an achievement. Even a devoted type enthusiast generally wants to reach the exhibition before falling completely in love with its sign.
