The nail has found a domestic career. Ingrid Sani Lang of Rótulo em Branco turns its silhouette into PREGO steel tables with interchangeable heads. Designboom published the project on 28 October as a designer submission.
The familiar shape contains a small sequence: your eye recognises hardware, while your hand prepares to put down a cup. A joke happens between those actions. We like that it lives inside the object. There’s no need to supply an explanatory caption.
Recognition alone doesn’t make furniture comfortable. With a project like this, we’d also want to examine stability, the surface edge and how the piece behaves beside a person. However much the nail has grown, it still has to work in an ordinary room.
