Lynn Lehmann and Dennis Gärtner work together as Zebu. Colossal’s selection dated 27 October features their vivid geometric murals. On their own website, the duo presents street work alongside illustration and print design.
A wall comes with circumstances missing from a clean artboard: the building’s edge, neighbouring windows, someone walking past. A large shape needs to register before a viewer decides to stop. A small detail can wait for whoever comes closer. Those are different reading distances, and both deserve a place in the composition.
We like the possibility of encountering colour without setting out to see art. You went for bread and got a visual adventure as well. Look at the works with their surroundings: a perfectly cropped rectangle can hide half the point of painting in the city.
