Swiss Typefaces describes Swiss Post Sans, its custom family for the Swiss postal service. Creative Boom revisited the project on 2 November. According to the studio, the upright styles had to replace the previous font files without rebuilding existing layouts.
That’s a brief with character: update the letters without sending the whole system in for repairs. Letterforms have to be considered alongside real lines, figures and neighbouring elements. A handsome alphabet on an empty field reveals only part of the job.
It’s a reason to reconsider unobtrusiveness. It can result from many precise decisions rather than a lack of ambition. The studio’s site shows both the uprights and more expressive italics. Most users will simply read the message and move on. For a typeface working for the post, that’s a respectable review, even without a formal thank-you letter.
