You know the prototype tour: click here, imagine the animation, and please ignore the bit that does nothing. Figma wants to shorten that performance. On 15 October it announced the open beta of code layers: code-backed prototypes living on the canvas.

Teams can import supported prototypes from GitHub or a local folder, compare versions side by side and refine them with the Figma agent. Extract designs brings screens back into editable Figma layers. That makes behaviour easier to discuss, though accessibility, edge cases and implementation quality still need checking.

One detail before you open another tab: code layers use AI credits. According to Figma’s announcement, creation and editing on paid plans are free until 4 November 2026. Check the terms again after that date.
